weekly inspiration.... catch up!

So it's been a few weeks since I've taken part in the MCP Actions weekly theme.....  What can I say?  I guess I've been busy?

Here's the catch up:
"Express Yourself"
I have always been a doodler.  The margins of my school notes were always covered in squiggles, hearts, and doodles.  I would try so hard to not doodle, but it was like my hand had a mind of its own!  I guess it was just my artistic side coming out....

"Childhood Toys"

I loved Gumby when I was kid!  And at some point in high school, I was given a Gumby doll.  It has been sitting in a drawer forever, but it was the perfect subject for this prompt!
"Darks and Lights"

This photo was taken while on a Jeep trip with SG near Silverwood Lake.  Most of the trees had been hit by a wildfire, so they were burned on one side, and perfectly fine.  It was so interesting and beautiful, and made for the perfect "Darks and Lights" photo.
"From the Jewelry Box"
My Alpha Chi Omega badge and my pearls were a large part of my college experience.  Seeing my badge in my jewelry box is a bittersweet feeling: I miss my Alpha Chi days, but I know that it will always be a part of me.  {Sappy, I know...}

an island adventure...

My amazing, hard-working boyfriend, SG, and I just got back from an all-expenses-paid (a.k.a. FREE!) trip to the Cayman Islands!  How did we score such an awesome deal, you ask?! Well, that's where the "hard-working" comes in....

Ever since we moved down to Southern California, SG has been working pretty much nonstop.  He has been continuously driving, answering emails, visiting distributors, taking phone calls, and selling massive amounts of tools.  He stays in a hotel at least once a week (usually twice), and is up with the sun to start it all over the next day....Well, all that hard work paid off when he made the President's Club at his national sales meeting in January!  And one of the perks of being a great "Sleezy Slesar Salesman" is a great trip!  :)  {And since I am the amazing and supportive girlfriend that I am, I got to enjoy the perks as well!}

After a long day of traveling starting at 3:45am, we finally arrived at the Marriott Resort on Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman at 5:30pm.  A quick trip up to our room (which overlooked the ocean --- so beautiful!) and then we were back downstairs for cocktails and dinner by the beach with the group.  Beautiful sunset, delicious food -- what more could I ask for?

 The next day, while SG was in his obligatory business meeting, I enjoyed room service on the balcony and read until he came back... Room service is really amazing when you are over-looking the Caribbean, and you don't have to pay for it! Once he came back from his meeting, we got our stuff together and headed out for the day.  We went on an interesting adventure on a moped to the other side of the island to visit the Queen Elizabeth Botanic Park.  After walking through the garden (and sweating profusely), we decide to start heading back to the hotel. On the way, we stopped and ate lunch at The Lighthouse (the first restaurant we came upon) -- his food was better than mine, but it was still delicious!  Once we turned in the moped and got back to the hotel, we agreed that the perfect way to end the day would be to spend it in the floating picnic tables with fruity drinks =)

 On Friday, we went on a group snorkel trip by the reef and Stingray City (pictures to come).  We ate sandwiches and soaked up some sun on a huge catamaran as it was taking us out to the reef.  The first stop was Stingray City, which is exactly what it sounds like!  It is a sand bar in the cove where tons of stingrays gather because fisherman used to throw their scraps out to feed them.  Now, when they see people they think they are going to be fed, so they swarm!  It was definitely a shock when the stingrays would rub up against your leg -- I'm pretty sure I screamed at least once... After hanging out with the stingrays, we went over to the reef where we got to do some snorkeling.  Very fun, but very tiring -- I fell asleep on the boat on the way back, and woke up to a lovely sunburn... After a nap at the hotel, SG and I were on our own for dinner, so we went to a little restaurant about 15 minutes from our hotel, called Calypso Grill.  This was by far the best meal we ate on the trip!  My mouth is watering just thinking about it....

On Saturday, I once again enjoyed a lovely breakfast on my balcony while SG went to his meeting.  Then, we spent the morning shopping and having lunch in George Town, followed by an afternoon at the Turtle Farm and Hell.  The Cayman Turtle Farm is a conservation effort to prevent the over-catching of wild green sea turtles.  They breed green sea turtles to sell to the general public for consumption, as well as release some into the wild.  The farm houses turtles from eggs to fully grown (a.k.a. MASSIVE) turtles, and allows you to touch/hold them -- the babies were so cute!!! =)

Hell is a field of black limestone formations, and looks very much like what Hell might look like (if you believe in that sort of thing). The story is that someone stumbled upon it, and said something along the lines of "This must be what hell looks like," and the name stuck!  It was interesting to see (for about 5 minutes), but there was not much else out there in that part of the island...

His true colors finally came out...
Our flight home was Sunday afternoon, so we spent the morning resting {SG got sick =( } and walking around by the hotel.  We arrived at the airport 3 hours early (like we were told to do by the front desk at the hotel) and got through customs and security in about 10 minutes.  It's a good thing I had my trusty iPhone with me to watch movies, because otherwise we would have been bored out of our minds!

The whole trip was an amazing experience, and I am so happy I got to spend it with my special guy!

phone photos....

 Recently, I joined the iPhone club!  Verizon finally got it, and its debut date just happened to be at the same time that my two year upgrade came up, so lucky me!! ;D

Anyways, one of the reasons I love it is that it has great photography apps!!  I actually have PHOTOSHOP on my PHONE!!  Tell me that is not AHHH-MAZINGGGGG!!!  Besides photoshop, there are fun apps where you can change the filters, change the "film", and edit your photos! It is so much fun!  Here's a few examples:
